Neglected areas – innovative cultural education in rural and cultural homogeneous areas

Xenophobia, consolidation of prejudices and affection to extremism, like Anti-Semitism, Anti-Arabism, Nationalism and Racism are increasing overriding in rural areas, which are usually characterized by a small amount of inhabitants with different cultural backgrounds (immigrants, refugess, students, employees, etc.) and therefore a limited cultural exchange and contact among the inhabitants. The global trends like international mobility, transnational networking, coalescence of the European Union, cultural diversity due to a history of immigration movements, individual choice of (sub-)cultural lifestyles due to decreasing cultural normative´s seem to affect these regions less than other regions.

Usually in these areas educational programmes pay attention to the minority of migrants. The motivation of the "cultural" homogeneous population to participate on international and -cultural educational programmes in these areas are low and the implementation in educational structures is challenging. Developing inter- and transcultural competencies in these areas means to widen horizons and to reflect on cultural identities in order to offer new opportunities of personal and social development. For these areas the mainly academically discussed concepts of „transculturality“ and „diversity“ point out promising toeholds for cultural education - especially to work with the seemingly more homogeneous population on cultural diversity. Therefore, organisations of political and cultural education should analyse, create new and improve their theoretical and practical procedure of cultural education along these concepts in those regions. This learning partnership with it´s participating partner organisations from Spain, Italy, Germany, Bulgaria and Turkey will develop educational programmes for cultural education measures in rural areas to overcome xenophobia, extremism and prejudices along the innovative concepts of „transculturality“, „diversity“ and valuable concepts of intercultural education.
