In many people the experience of a peaceful political change in 1989 awoke hopes of a home country without military. In 1990, people from different citizens’ initiatives in Halle brought these hopes together and founded the Friedenskreis Halle e.V. Today, people of various world views, religions, nationalities and political affiliations are working together at Friedenskreis Halle e.V. We see peace not as a state of affairs, not as a far-off goal and not just as the absence of war. Peace is the basic for a life in coexistence determined by co-operation, justice and non-violence. This enables the individual to pursue and live its freedom. In order to realise this aim we are trying to open up and impart new ways leading towards such a life, while questioning them at the same time. We commit ourselves to the fields of education work, peace policy and set up projects for civilian conflict management in Germany and abroad.
Our current programmes and projects: o Seminaries and educational programmes in the areas of communication, conflict resolution, mediation, dealing with violence, learning how to speak out and anti-racism o Consulting services for initiatives and projects that are working with the same ideas o Lectures and seminaries on current peace-associated themes o Civil conflict resolution through the development of an educational and encounter centre in Jajce, Bosnia o International Voluntary Services with the programmes „European Vonuntary Service“ and „weltwärts“ o EVS-Seminaries in cooperation with ICJA e.V., Berlin/ Germany o Workcamps, youth encounters and volunteer work in the countries of the Balkans o Counselling on military service and conscientious objection o Cooperation in activities and campaigns against militarisation o Operation of the biggest peace-related library in eastern Germany o Coordination of the project
Our work is made possible through full-time and voluntary work, private donations and public funding. At the time 9 employees, 1 EVS-Volunteer and a high number of volunteers and trainers are working in the association.
Intercultural life, educación activa por un mundo intercultural
We are an association active in the field of non-formal education. With our projects and seminars we want to offer a frame for creative and permanent learning experiences, which allow the participants to develop their abilities of interaction, reflexion and social action. We want to foster key competences which are important for the life in a modern globalized word such as intercultural competence, communication skills and critical thinking.
We want to promote:
Our main target groups are young people with fewer opportunities as well as social workers, youth workers and teachers who are working with these youngsters. We are cooperating with schools, centers for vocational training, NGOs and public bodies.
We offer seminars and workshops, coaching for youth initiatives, international projects like youth exchanges, training courses, networking projects and international language courses, as well as consulting services in european youthwork. From 2011 on we will also get involved with the European Voluntary Service.
Methodology Our work is based on the principles of active education, an educational approach which defines the individual as the actor of its own educational process. Our methods facilitate cooperation and participation and offer opportunities to discover other social and cultural realities, to act, to communicate, to reflect and thus to learn.. The learning process unites the cognitive, the affective and the action-oriented levels.
In our activities we use a diversitiy of non-formal educational methods like energizers, teambuilding activities, creative methods like collage, video, foto or theatre, outdoor experiential education or role plays among others.
